Care & Feeding of solid wood tabletops

Wood is a natural product. Its tone, color, and grain characteristics will vary from piece to piece. We will make every effort to select boards that work well together. Wood expands and contracts slightly with temperature and humidity, and may develop small cracks, especially in very dry environments.

To ensure that your top stays beautiful for generations to come:

  • Keep your tabletop in a stable environment. The more fluctuations in temperature and humidity it experiences, the greater the chance it will warp or crack.
  • If your top is bare wood, we recommend applying a finish. See our simple recipes here.
  • When mounting your top, allow it to expand and contract along its width.
